linuxdvb.tv FAQ

(Answer) (Category) linuxdvb.tv FAQ : (Category) Hardware :
What MPEG streams can be played by the DVB card?

The DVB card can play all MPEGs according to the Main Profile@Main Level (MP@ML) specifications (MP@ML is an MPEG-2 video compression profile that supports 4:2:0 luminance/chrominance sampling at up to 720x576 pixel resolution and data rates up to 15 Mb/sec).

In practice, this means that the card will scale

  • 704x576, 544x576, 480x576, 352x576, and 352x288 to 720x576 in PAL
  • 704x480, 544x480, 480x480, 352x480 and 352x240 to 720x480 in NTSC

All other image sizes can not be scaled and will result in a black image!
