linuxdvb.tv FAQ

(Answer) (Category) linuxdvb.tv FAQ : (Category) Hardware :
Are DVB-t cards supported an in which countries do they work?

There is preliminary support for the Hauppauge Nova-t PCI card in the current CVS driver. However, this does not include tuner support so you cannot do anything useful with the card.

Once the tuner support has been finished, the card should work in the UK as well as the rest of Europe because its LSI Logic L64781 demodulator chip supports both UK and continental European DVB-t standards.

After all, you have to keep in mind that the Nova-t card is a low-budget card. To view DVB-t recordings, you need a software MPEG-2 player or a fully-featured DVB-c or DVB-s card!

Yes. As of November 8th 2001, the driver supports the TechnoTrends DVB-T cards (both the full-featured and budget cards). Hauppauge sell the budget card as the "Win-TV DVB NOVA-t" - this is the only DVB-T card currently available to the general public.
The LSI Logic L64781 DVB-T OFDM demodulator used in these cards supports all forms of DVB-T transmissions, so it should work in any country. It has been tested successfully in Germany and the UK.
The Hauppauge Nova-T works in Australia with the Linux DVB driver. Although we have VHF/UHF channels with 7 MHz spacing and this card only supports UHF, in the major cities such as Melbourne and Sydney all networks began broadcasting on UHF translators late in 2002. This card has now become very useful.Check "www.dba.org.au" for coverage details.
If you actually bothered to read the DBA website you would know Sydney uses both UHF/VHF frequencies. Ive been wantting to build a VDR box for syndey for over 2 years now, And LOng many hour searches has come up nilch with cards that support what Sydney uses Need. http://www.dba.org.au/index.asp?sectionID=22 If your in sydney you will need a card that suppport , frequencies 6,7,8 and UHF/CHF .
