There are different DVB cards available from several manufacturers. What is the difference?

There are several companies (brands) that sell DVB(-s) cards. All fully-featured cards currently available are based on the TI AV7110 chip and they are identical. They have been designed and are being produced by Technotrend. Currently, the following cards are available and supported by the Linux driver:

Siemens DVB-s and DVB-c (only available from Siemens "Werksverkauf")
Hauppauge WinTV Nexus-s (formerly DVB-s) and DVB-c
Hauppauge WinTV NOVA. This card has no DVB decoder and cannot be used for playback! It is usually referred to as a "low budget card"
Technotrend TT-DVBS
Galaxis plug.in S
Technisat SkyStar 1 DVB PC Karte. This card doesn't seem to be available anymore.
